The Student Guardian SC 590 Visa is for those people who would like to visit Australia to support a child holding a student visa. 

With this temporary visa, eligible applicants can stay in Australia as the guardian of a student younger than 18 years studying in Australia on a student visa. 

 

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be the parent or guardian of the child or a relative that has been nominated by the child’s parent or guardian.
  • Your age must be 21 years or older They are not permitted to bring members of their family that are younger than 6 years unless during certain exceptions.
  • You must be able to support the student’s and your stay in Australia with sufficient money. 
  • You must be capable of supporting and ensuring the welfare of the student unless you are being supported by your home government.
  • You must not work in Australia

 

Benefits

With this visa you can stay in Australia and support a student visa holder. The student must be under the age of 18 years, but can be older in certain exceptional circumstances.

You can care and support more than 1 child with this visa. 

 While holding the Student Guardian SC 590, you can study an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas students for less than 20 hours per week or you can study a course or seek training for up to 3 months.

Duration

The Student Guardian SC 590 Visa is a temporary visa and the duration of your stay is determined by the stay and age of the student visa holder.

Bringing Family

You are not permitted to bring members of your family that are younger than 6 years unless during certain exceptions that include:

  • Compassionate or compelling reasons to permit the application
  • Granting this visa would result in significant benefit in the relationship between the Australian Government and a foreign country.

If the visa is granted in accordance with the above exceptions, the child will be required to meet the same health requirements and should have health insurance during their stay in Australia.
